Accurate and Scalable Processing of Big Data in Earth Observation

Two ERC-funded Postdoc Positions:

We are looking for highly motivated and outstanding two PostDoc researchers to join our new BigEarth group. The PostDoc positions are fully funded by the ERC-funded BigEarth project: BigEarth - Accurate and Scalable Processing of Big Data in Earth Observation.

All applicants should have:

  • a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or Applied Mathematics.
  • excellent communication skills in English.
  • experience with analysis of high dimensional data (experience on processing of remote sensing images is a plus).
  • a strong publication record in the machine learning and/or remote sensing conferences and journals in one or more of the following areas:
    • Image search and retrieval
    • Object recognition
    • Representation and deep learning
    • Kernel-based methods
    • Supervised, semi-supervised or unsupervised learning
    • Multi-modal learning
    • SAR, multispectral and/or hyperspectral image classification

The research activity of the successful candidates will focus on:

  • development of novel methods and tools to characterize and exploit high level semantic and spectral information present in remote sensing images (PostDoc-1)
  • development of accurate and scalable remote sensing image indexing and retrieval methods (PostDoc-2)

The candidates will actively participate in research and working with graduate students, and will also have opportunities for teaching. For further information, please contact Dr. Begüm Demir (demir[at]disi.unitn.it)

Preferred starting date: 01/04/2018 (it is negotiable)

Duration: 2 years

If you are interested, please send your resume, a statement of research experience and the contact details of three references as single PDF document to Dr. Begüm Demir (demir[at]disi.unitn.it).

There is no strict deadline and the position will remain open until it is filled.
